Drip irrigation
Netafim USA introduces Techline EZ, an innovative 12mm drip line for looped on-surface irrigation installations. The system irrigates a 1,500 square-foot planting area with one 250-foot roll of 12mm Netafim tubing and two fittings that include a Low Volume Control Zone Kit and Line Flushing Valve. Dripper spacings are placed at 12 and 18 inches for uniform water application to the root zones. Pressure compensation delivers equal amounts of water over a pressure range of 6-50 psi. Continuous flushing eliminates debris throughout the entire operation. The system has anti-siphon emitters and physical root barriers. READER SERVICE #70

Irrigation controls
Sapien, a dedicated two-wire controller that operates up to 63 stations, is now available from Underhill International. Sapien, known as a “decoder-based” controller, also uses the same valve decoders that are installed in a Hunter ICC two-wire system and in Underhill’s Universal 2Wire modules. Sapien works in multiple applications: new irrigation systems, a multi-wire conversion or a two-wire (or multi-wire) expansion. No special wiring or field grounding is required. READER SERVICE #72

Miticide/insecticide
OHP Inc. has introduced Sirocco Miticide/Insecticide, a broad-spectrum miticide and insecticide that provides control of a variety of mites including two-spotted spider mite, spruce spider mite, cyclamen mite, broad mite, bud mite and southern red mite. It also provides control of insects such as leafminers and suppression of aphids, thrips and whiteflies.

Sirocco is a combination of bifenazate and abamectin that can be used on ornamental plants including bedding plants, foliage plants, bulb crops, perennials, shrubs and trees, including non-bearing fruit trees, grown in greenhouses, shadehouses, nurseries, landscapes and interiorscapes. Pots and trays
Myers Industries Lawn and Garden Group has introduced its Pro-Ex line of polypropylene coextruded pots and polypropylene carrying trays. The Pro-Ex line consists of five pots ranging in size from 4 to 4½ inches. The pots feature a wide platform lip which imparts hoop strength and a molded-in slot that keeps tags in an upright position. The pots come in black and terra cotta exterior colors and are available in cartons or bulk pallets. They have a gloss finish for easy adhesive labeling and can be offset printed in eight colors.

The accompanying carrying trays are durable, flexible and long lasting. There are seven different tray configurations offered. Black is the standard tray color, but optional colors are available. READER SERVICE #73  

Fungicide
Segway fungicide from FMC Corp. provides effective control of Pythium, Phytophthora and downy mildew on ornamentals in commercial greenhouse and nursery production and in the landscape. It contains the active ingredient cyazofamid and is the only registered FRAC Group 21 fungicide that helps with resistance management. It inhibits all fungal life cycle stages providing control even after symptoms are visible.

From Feb. 1 to March 31, 2011, FMC Professional Solutions is offering a Segway Fungicide Winter Incentive, a rebate of $20 per unit for purchases of six bottles or more. Energy screen
Svensson is offering XLS 10 Ultra Revolux energy screen with H2no technology that reduces the formation of condensation droplets and increases light transmission. Condensation droplets act as a mirror to reflect light and reduce light transmission in the greenhouse. With H2no, water on the screen forms a thin, transparent film that is wicked away into the screen’s yarn structure. The result is an increase (up to 10 percent) in light transmission compared to an untreated screen. H2no technology is compatible and available in the Revolux flame retardant screen. Pond aeration
Micro-diffusion Aeration Systems from DRAMMwater utilize extremely small air bubbles to both oxygenate the water and gently turn the water in the pond.  Turning the water gently ensures that the pond water is homogenized and evenly oxygenated.
