Behind the Scenes

GIE Media graphic artist Nichole Frye organized a donations drive at our home office in Richfield, Ohio. She asked co-workers to gather items to send to Japan, where most of her family lives. Her uncle lives 30 minutes north of Tokyo, and thankfully he was not injured. But the area lacks basic necessities, and Frye asked coworkers to donate food, clothing and other items.

“To think this started as a small request to have donations sent to help my uncle is amazing. The compassion I have seen in the last couple of weeks has reinforced my beliefs that America is a wonderful country where anything is possible and even the smallest acts of generosity can make a world of difference,” Frye said.

Helping Hands
Help hort students by contributing to the Carl Whitcomb Endowed Scholarship in Nursery Management at Oklahoma State University. This fund is eligible for the Pickens Legacy Match if it reaches $50,000 in total contributions by Feb. 26, 2015. The $50,000 fund would then receive a $75,000 match from Boone Pickens estate to result in a $125,000 scholarship fund at OSU, paying out 5 percent annually for scholarships. When fully funded, it would provide $6,250 in annual scholarships to deserving young people interested in the nursery industry. Make checks payable to the OSU Foundation, Carl Whitcomb fund, #21-64900, 400 S. Monroe, Stillwater, OK 74076. Need more info?
