Proper tree spade maintenance and preparations are keys to a successful spring digging season. Don't let the season sneak up on you without performing these critical steps. Lost time in the field equals lost profits. Make sure your equipment is in tip-top shape before you start digging.
- Hook spade up to the loader and check the hookup and hydraulic lines for fittings and leaks.
- Inspect the plastic on the bearings surface for wear.
- If the spade is electric over hydraulic, make sure the connections and wiring are free of corrosion.
- Run the blades down and inspect blade alignment.
- Dig a few plug holes to make sure the spade is working under pressure.
- Use a light grinder and sharpen the blades, if necessary.
- Grease fittings if required.
- If in doubt, call your dealer.
