In Garden Center’s 2014 State of the Industry Survey, tree sale success varied for retailers. More than half (58%) indicated that tree sales increased compared to 2013. However, the category has declined for others over the years. Survey participants indicated the tree category saw the second largest decline in sales in spring 2014. Growers need to improve communications with garden center customers regarding price points and marketing/POP support.
Source: Data collected by Readex Research on behalf of Garden Center magazine via an online survey from August 7 to August 18, 2014. The results were based on the 542 respondents who indicated they own/operate/manage an independent garden center.
