Goodwin is the general manager of Planters’ Choice Nursery in Newtown/Watertown. Jeremy Webber of Sunny Border Nurseries in Kensington, Conn., received the state’s Young Nursery Professional Award. Business Announcements FarmTek was awarded a grant by the Iowa Department of Economic Development to create new facilities and jobs over the next three years. FarmTek plans to use the grant to construct a 32,000-square-foot manufacturing facility. The company also expects to acquire new robotics, machinery and equipment. Canadian peat-producer Heveco Ltd. and its Chicago-based subsidiary, J-M Trading, announced that Fafard & Frères Ltd. has become a new shareholder. As a leading player in the Canadian gardening industry, Fafard & Frères brings both operational and financial resources to this new partnership. Silver Vase has redesigned its website with a fully searchable integrated online database and plant care tips; www.silvervase.com. Harrell’s LLC acquired a peat bog containing more than 9 million cubic yards of certified, nematode-free, 100 percent organic, pure Florida peat. The acquisition will allow Harrell’s to offer growers premium peat moss and peat-based growing mixes. Ellepot-USA’s new “Plant-It-Friendly” Bio Bag has been recognized as an Approved Input Material under the Veriflora Sustainability Certification Program for plants and flowers. The Plant-It-Friendly Bio Bag is made from a potato-based polylactic acid resin. It is an effective substitute for plastic pots. The Bio Bag also complies with the specifications for “compostable” as defined by the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM D6400). AGCO, a worldwide manufacturer and distributor of agricultural equipment, has opened its Global Learning Center in Duluth, Ga. The 19,500-square-foot facility, the new home of AGCO Academy and AGCO University, will serve as the cornerstone of the company’s comprehensive learning program for dealers and employees.
