Industry Accolades

On July 10 during the OFA Short Course, GIE Media’s Horticulture Group honored the best of the best – growers, retailers and students. We hosted the Horticultural Industries Leadership Awards, which paid tribute to representatives of all 50 states for their outstanding contributions to the industry and their communities.

The publishers and editors of Nursery Management, Greenhouse Management and Garden Center magazines received nominations for the awards. There were elder statesmen of the industry and new, rising stars. There were men and women. There were stoics and fun lovers. Our honorees are those who consistently put the best interests of their faith, family, businesses and communities ahead of their own. Read about two of the national winners on Page 46 and find out more about all the winners on our home page. Navigate to current issue (July) and click on the HILA supplement.

That same night, we honored our inaugural scholarship winners. The GIE Media Horticulture Group awarded scholarships of $5,000 each to Lauren Garcia of Texas A&M University and Trenton Spratling of Brigham Young University.

Garcia, who will be a senior in the fall, is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Horticulture, studying landscape architecture and working on a minor in urban and regional planning. Spratling is expected to graduate from Brigham Young in December with a Bachelor of Science in Landscape Management.
