Dark-blue flower spikes greet the summer garden before others in the species

 

Name: Salvia farinacea Velocity Blue.

Description: An early blooming tender perennial that features large, dark-blue flower spikes. Flowering throughout the summer, it attracts hummingbirds, butterflies and bees. It has excellent heat tolerance.

Habit: Plants grow up to 16 inches tall and 12 inches wide. It features strong stems and a bushy, dense habit.

Culture: Grow in full sun and in moist, well-drained soil.

Landscape use: Velocity Blue adds height to combination planters, and can be used like a bedding plant.

Hardiness: USDA Hardiness Zones 8-11.
