Common name: Fragaria ‘Lipstick’
Description: This ornamental strawberry features dark green foliage and deep rose-red flowers that appear from April to June and again during the fall. It produces small berries, but they’re not bred for human consumption. Save the berries for the wildlife. ‘Lipstick’ grows 6-8 inches tall. It was developed in 1966 by crossing the garden strawberry (Fragaria × ananassa) with marsh cinquefoil (Potentilla palustris).
Habit: Slightly mounded form with a creeping habit.
Hardiness: USDA Hardiness Zones 3-8. drought tolerant; fruit attracts wildlife.
Propagation: By division.
In the landscape: Use as a groundcover; in windowboxes, containers, rock gardens or hanging baskets. Grows best in well-drained, fertile, slightly acidic soils in full sun to partial shade.
