This fall, Nursery Management embarked on a new project. This month marks the first-ever Top 50 nurseries list. Find the list, based on sales revenues, on a poster after page 18. We invited the industry to participate by way of e-blasts and social media. We included only those who agreed to participate and share their information. We wanted to keep the list as accurate as possible, so we chose not to estimate anyone’s revenues. All information is from the growers themselves. I want to thank each one of you who participated, and congratulate each grower on the list. Whether you’re at the top, in the middle or at the end of the list, each participant provides a significant contribution to the industry. Whether you have $20 million or $200,000 in revenues, you help move this industry forward. This list represents an entrepreneurial spirit. It signifies determination and diligence. It embodies strength and hard work, as well as the willingness to take risks. Companies on the list range from ones that have been around more than a century to those in business less than a decade. You’ll see propagators and finished growers on the list. Even two Canadian provinces are represented. The combined total of the participants’ revenues came out to more than $620 million. I’m confident that next year’s list will surpass that amount. We also profiled three people from the Top 50 this month. Read their stories beginning on page 36. And watch for more profiles from the list in upcoming issues, as well as on our website. If you missed the invites or the social media posts and want to be included next year, email me at krodda@gie.net and ask to be put on next year’s Top 50 invitation list.
GIE Media’s new digs GIE Media Inc., which brings you this publication every month along with Greenhouse Management, Garden Center and Lawn & Landscape (just to name a few), recently located to a new corporate headquarters in Valley View, Ohio. For several years the company has maintained two offices in northern Ohio: one in Richfield and one in Cleveland. GIE acquired its new office building in March of this year. “Since purchasing the building, we’ve made considerable investments to support the technology that drives our business and provide all of GIE’s team members with a modern, efficient and productive workplace,” said Christopher Foster, company CEO. “With 25,000 square feet, the building can easily accommodate our current workforce of 90-plus while also allowing ample room for continued growth.” The Nursery Management editorial address and phone number will stay the same.
