Panicum virgatum PRAIRIE WINDS™

Grasses have been making a comeback, and just in time for this trend is this new native to North America switch grass: Panicum virgatum PRAIRIE WINDS™ ‘Apache Rose’ PPAF CPBRAF from Proven Winners. Coming in at only 4 feet tall, ‘Apache Rose’ has gray-green leaves and an upright, columnar habit. Its most unique feature is its rose-colored flower panicles, hence the name ‘Apache Rose.’ Typically, green-leaved Panicums tend to have tan or cream flowers. Hardy to Zone 4.

Perovskia atriplicifolia ‘Denim ‘n Lace’

Russian Sage has never looked so good! Perovskia has been a common fixture in the perennial landscape, but older varieties can have disappointing performances. Perovskia atriplicifolia ‘Denim ‘n Lace’ PPAF CPBRAF (from Proven Winners) breaks with tradition with a fabulous, full habit and strong stems that don’t lodge in wind and rain. It stays compact at 28-32 inches, unlike other taller varieties. Lacy-like, bright sky blue flowers are packed in tight on each stem, giving the plant an overall full effect. Hardy to Zone 4.

Heuchera ‘Ruffles ‘n Truffles’

This dark-leafed Coral Bells is the perfect addition to the shade lineup with its incredibly dense, curly and ruffled leaves. With age, the curls loosen waves. Under each mahogany brown leaves, there are rich raspberry undersides which are revealed under the ruffled edges. Medium pink flowers complement the dark foliage in midsummer.

Hibiscus ‘Mars Madness’

The foliage and flowers of Hibiscus ‘Mars Madness’ PPAF are a unique color combination in Hardy Hibiscus. Starting with the foliage, newest leaves emerge coppery purple and mellow to dark olive green. Flowers are magenta red, not the crimson red color of ‘Cranberry Crush.’ To top it off, it forms a full, billowy habit topping at 4-4½ feet tall. This is a later blooming Hibiscus that will extend the life of your garden well into fall. Hardy to Zone 4.
