Exciting new plants you'll want to grow

Buddleia ‘Miss Molly’
This butterfly bush from Proven Winners Color Choice, pushes the color spectrum with dark, Sangria-red flowers. The red color may be more pronounced in the South. It grows up to 4 feet high and is hardy to USDA Hardiness Zone 5. It was developed by Dennis Werner of North Carolina State University. www.provenwinners.com

Phlox paniculata ‘Shockwave’
Walters Gardens introduces ‘Shockwave,’ a stable variegated sport of ‘David’s Lavender,’ both selected by ItSaul Plants.  It could certainly be grown for its foliage alone, but the large clusters of lavender-pink flowers with a white starburst center are a great bonus. From spring into early summer, the leaves are deep green with prominent, sunny yellow margins. As the season progresses, the margins lighten to creamy yellow. It’s hardy in Zones 4-8. www.waltersgardens.com

Heuchera ‘Stainless Steel’
Thick, celery-green leaves have an overlay of silver with brightly colored eggplant purple undersides, giving this new selection from Plants Nouveau a multi-dimensional look. It’s heat and humidity tolerant and it can withstand Zone 4 winters. It’s also drought tolerant once established. Strong purple stems hold 18-inch cut-flower quality flower stalks with 8 inches of sturdy, creamy white bells. Grows best in full to partial shade. Flowers appear in early May and remain for up to six weeks. www.plantsnouveau.com

Abelia ‘Kaleidoscope’
Reported to be the longest blooming of all abelias, ‘Kaleidoscope’ from Plant Haven, features dramatically defined variegation exploding in varying combinations of green, red, yellow and orange throughout the year. It’s hardy to Zone 6. Light-pink buds open to pure white tubular flowers, which persist into fall. ‘Kaleidoscope’ has a compact, tight rounded habit that grows to 2 feet high and 3 feet wide. It grows best in well-drained soil in full sun, and is heat and drought tolerant once established. www.planthaven.com
