2018 new varieties: Bailey Nurseries

Cornus alba First Editions® Neon Burst™ Dogwood

First Editions® Neon Burst™ is a compact plant with attractive chartreuse foliage and strong sun tolerance. Its stems have a rich red hue early in the season. Fall foliage is a rainbow of purple, red, yellow and orange. In winter, stems turn glossy scarlet red. 

Distylium First Editions® Swing Low™

First Editions® Swing Low™ Distylium is a low-growing evergreen with dainty blue-green leaves. It grows well in dry or wet soils, seasonally flooded areas, and slopes. It’s also heat tolerant, adapts well to pruning when needed, and is disease and insect resistant. Swing Low™ is especially perfect for mass planting. 

Gardenia jasminoides First Editions® Sweet Star® Gardenia

Sweet Star® offers more of what we already crave about gardenia: big, fragrant, abundant flowers bloom well into summer and early fall. Add pretty orange fruit later in the season on an already nicely rounded, tidy plant and you will easily fall in love.

Ilex crenata First Editions® Straight & Narrow™ Japanese Holly

Straight & Narrow™ holly is a perfectly suited vertical accent for home and urban landscapes. Its shiny dark green leaves and tidy structure make it a standout no matter what time of year. Its columnar shape makes it a great fit in small spaces.

Hydrangea paniculata First Editions® Berry White™ Hydrangea ‘Renba’ PPAF

First Editions® Berry White™ hydrangea is a summer stunner with strong, upright stems and large cone-shaped flowers. The flower color starts out white in July then progresses to dark pink. Color shades can vary by location, climate and type of soil. Berry White™ blooms a little later than Strawberry Sundae® and about the same time as Vanilla Strawberry™. 

Lagerstroemia First Editions® Sunset Magic™ Crapemyrtle ‘PIILAG-IX’ PPAF

Talk about a sizzling combination! First Editions® Sunset Magic™ crapemyrtle is compact beauty that has large brilliant red flower heads and flowers more heavily than other reds with dark foliage. Deep black-purple leaves lay flat, are lustrous and hold their dark color into late summer. Foliage has been disease free to date. Like our other dark leaf Magic™ crapes, this variety is cercospora resistant and an excellent problem-free replacement for purple leaf plums in areas where plums are defoliated by August. 

Ligustrum vulgare First Editions® Straight Talk™ Privet ‘Swift’

First Editions® Straight Talk™ privet is perfect as a vertical accent in tight spaces at only 2’ wide and tightly upright. Cold hardy and drought tolerant, it’s easy-to-grow in a wide range of soils and tolerates urban conditions. Flowers are white and followed by black fruit. 

Syringa First Editions® Virtual Violet™ Lilac

Shiny violet new leaves, deep purple stems, raspberry-purple buds, and fragrant violet flowers make Virtual Violet™ a standout new lilac. Its leaf petioles remain violet well into the summer, and the dense, upright habit makes it a great choice for a hedge or use in foundation plantings. 

Viburnum plicatum First Editions® Opening Day™ Doublefile Viburnum ‘PIIVIB-II’ PPAF

First Editions® Opening Day™ Doublefile viburnum is a compact plant that is covered with baseball sized, snowball-like flowers that open with a tinge of green and quickly mature to pure white. Plants are tight in habit with dark green foliage that turns beautiful shades of cabernet in the fall.
