Flordenia Dipladenia

The new Flordenia Dipladenia series (pictured above) brings a tropical vacation feeling wherever it goes. Its motto is “Better branching – More Flower Power.” Dümmen Orange wanted to offer an array of vigors and colors in Dipladenia with this new series. The varieties work well in a hanging basket or as a thriller in mixed combinations.

Flordenia is more floriferous than most with stronger branching and brighter blooms. Heat- and drought-tolerant, but also cold-tolerant, it thrives in a variety of weather conditions. Because it’s relatively drought-tolerant, it’s an excellent choice for summer sales.

Varieties including Chocolate, Dark Red, Flame, Neon, Pink, Red Velvet, Summer Red, White Halo, Plus Pink, Plus Summer Red and Plus White Halo. The Plus series is a climbing variety that’s excellent for growing in trellis planters. Its target season is spring to first frost.

Flordenia is available to growers in 2024 with limited availability now. Callused cuttings take four weeks with unrooted cuttings taking longer. Flordenia comes from Guatemala.

Down Town Coleus

A bold addition to Dümmen Orange’s coleus collection, Down Town is finely textured with multi-toned foliage and a compact habit that give small spaces a bold look. Down Town is smaller than the Main Street coleus line with a compact-medium vigor that allows for finishing in quarts and gallons.

Down Town has great cold and heat tolerance and is incredibly late to flower.

There are seven options: Greenville, NYC Nights, Columbus, Le Freak, Miami Magic, Santa Monica and Vegas Neon.

En pointe

Dümmen Orange debuted Ballerina’s, a new fuchsia series available to growers in 2024. The name was inspired by the flowers’ resemblance to a ballerina doing a pirouette. The Ballerina’s series is day-length neutral and offers strong branching without the need for pinching or PGRs. While the target season is spring with their cheery colors and playful flowers, they are heat tolerant.

For the consumer, the series is ideal for balconies or landscape beds. Bonus: they are pollinator magnets.

Selections include Arabesque, Brisé, Assemblé, Coupé, Piqué, Relevé, Pirouette and Tendu.
