The New Jersey Nursery and Landscape Association (NJNLA) announced the Governor vetoed the Invasive Species bill (A3677/A2807/S2186). In his letter to the General Assembly, he cited that he is "concerned that the bill does not consider the existing authority of the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (“DEP”) in this space. Successfully controlling and limiting the spread of invasive species in New Jersey necessitates careful consideration of the framework already established under DEP around potentially dangerous species, which includes non-native and environmentally harmful species. Additional discussion with the relevant agencies is needed to limit duplicative and unproductive efforts to address invasive species across the State."

The NJNLA will continue to advocate for the nursery and landscape industries as they regroup and work with collaborators on a bill that will propose to ban the propagation, sale, export or import of a select group of plants that are widely considered to be invasive.
