IPPS plans Pacific Rim conference

The Western Region's annual meeting will take place in Hawaii from July 28 to Aug. 4.

The International Plant Propagators Society’s Western Region is planning its annual meeting: the Pacific Rim conference. The event takes place in Hawaii from July 28 to Aug. 4.

A three-night, two-day pre-conference tour will begin with a reception on Saturday, July 28 at Ala Moana Hotel in Honolulu. Attendees will enjoy all-day tours on Oahu Sunday and Monday, and a free day on Tuesday to relax on Waikiki and fly on to Kona on the Big Island. IPPS will kick off the conference with a reception and registration at the Courtyard King Kamehameha's Kona Beach Hotel in the Kona Village (the conference hotel) on Tuesday evening.

Though the pre-conference tour on Oahu is currently sold out; IPPS is accepting registrations for the annual meeting, which takes place on the Big Island of Hawaii. The organization encourages early booking; hotel discounts expire April 15. Mention IPPS for the group discount rate. Click here for more information on how to register.

The annual meeting includes a full day of presentations on Aug. 1. The conference presentations will focus on four topics: regional trends and trade throughout the Pacific rim, native plant propagation (with a technical focus that includes Hawaiian natives), propagation of edibles (including tropical fruit) and micropropagation (including floral crop production).

Attendees will see presentations by speakers from Hawaii, Micronesia, New Zealand, Australia, Singapore, India, China, Canada, and IPPS Eastern Region.

Aug. 2 has a full itinerary, with an all-day cross-island tour. On Aug. 3, the third day of the conference will include morning presentations and their choice of two afternoon tours. For detailed information on the tour destinations, visit the IPPS Western site.

Another way to participate in the annual meeting is by submitting a poster. Attendees can bring a poster covering a research, development, or horticultural practice about plant propagation or plant production, including new plants. Posters do not have to be academic or scientific in nature, but must be non-commercial. Click here for more information and the application form. Make sure you submit an application between April 1 and June 30.
